I want to move an old pension across
On 19 May 2026, the Government increased the SCAPE discount rate. Because of this, we’re not giving new quotes right now. We’re also not updating quotes that are more than 3 months old. This will continue until the new factors are ready. You can read more about this in our news article.
Who can transfer in a pension?
You can transfer a pension into your LGPS pension if you:
- Apply within 12 months of joining the LGPS. After that, both the Fund and your employer must agree if the old pension is outside the LGPS.
- Are under 75 and still paying into the LGPS.
You can’t transfer a pension if you’re already receiving pension payments.
What types of pensions can I transfer?
You can transfer:
- previous LGPS pensions
- other workplace pensions
- self-employed pensions
- personal pensions
- stakeholder pensions
- additional voluntary contribution (AVC) plans.
Transfers into the LGPS are free, but your old provider might charge a fee. Check with them first. Transfers aren’t always accepted, we’ll let you know if this applies to your case.
How do I transfer?
From another LGPS Fund in England and Wales
- Let us know on our membership form if you’ve an old LGPS pension (England and Wales).
- Pensions after 31 March 2014 transfer automatically unless you choose otherwise.
- Pensions from before 1 April 2014 stay separate unless you ask us to transfer them.
From other pension schemes or LGPS Fund outside of England and Wales
- Fill in the Transfer in pack (non-England and Wales LGPS).
- We’ll request a cash equivalent transfer value (CETV) from your old provider and provide transfer benefit details to help you decide.
