Help your members to pay their pension some attention
This year’s Pay Your Pension Some Attention campaign is all about Grow Your Pension. By encouraging LGPS members to take a few minutes to check their pension, you can help them get the most from their future retirement benefits.
Pensions can seem complex, so many people put them off. But a few simple steps can make a big difference later.
Three ways LGPS members can grow their pension
Find it
Members who have worked for other employers, may have pension savings they’ve forgotten about. They can look for lost pensions using the Government’s Pension Tracing Service.
Check it
Encourage members to review their pension savings and make sure their details are up to date. LGPS members can log in to their online pension account to:
- View their pension benefits
- Check their annual pension statements
- Update their address and personal details
- Update their expression of wish nomination
- Use retirement planning tools.
Plan it
Thinking about retirement early can help members plan for the future. The Retirement Living Standards website shows different retirement lifestyles and the income needed to support them. Members can also use the MoneyHelper Pension Calculator to see how their pension savings could support their retirement plans.
Employees 2026 pension statements are ready
LGPS members’ can now view their statements in their online pension account. The pension portal was upgraded in December. It now has a new sign-in process and better security. If they signed up before 3 December 2025, or this is their first time using the portal, they’ll need to set up a new account before they can view their statement. They’ll need their National Insurance number to get started.
Statements can be found under the ’Annual Benefit Statements’ section of their dashboard. The new format gives a quick summary of the main figures. More detail is available in the drop down sections below the summary. Members can also download and print a copy.
Members should:
- check their personal details are up to date
- review their expression of wish nomination
- use the retirement planning tools.
