This year’s Pay Your Pension Some Attention campaign is all about Grow Your Pension. A little time spent on your pension now can help it grow for the future. Pensions can seem hard to understand. Many people put them off until later life. But no matter how far away retirement is, a few simple steps now can make a big difference.
Three ways to grow your pension
Find it
If you’ve worked for different employers, you may have pension savings you’ve forgotten about. You can look for lost pensions using the Government’s Pension Tracing Service.
Check it
Take some time to look at your pension savings. As an LGPS member, you can log in to your online pension account to:
- View your pension benefits
- Check your annual pension statements
- Update your address and personal details
- Update your expression of wish nomination
- Use retirement planning tools
Plan it
Have you thought about what you’d like retirement to be like? The Retirement Living Standards website shows examples of different retirement lifestyles and how much income they may need. You can also use the MoneyHelper Pension Calculator to see how your pension savings could support your plans for retirement.
Your 2026 pension statement is ready
Your LGPS statement is now available in your online pension account. The pension portal was upgraded in December. It now has a new sign-in process and better security. If you signed up before 3 December 2025, or this is your first time using the portal, you’ll need to set up a new account before you can view your statement. You’ll need your National Insurance number to get started.
You’ll find your statement under the ’Annual Benefit Statements’ section of your dashboard. The new statement gives you a quick summary of the main figures. If you’d like more detail, open the drop down sections below the summary. You can also download and print a copy.
While you’re logged in, why not:
- check your personal details are up to date
- review your expression of wish nomination
- use the retirement planning tools in your account
If you’d like to pay more into your pension, you can find your options on our website. You’ll also find helpful videos, guides and planning tools to help you plan for your retirement.
