Can I transfer into the LGPS?

Yes. You can move pensions into the LGPS from another pension scheme or a personal pension.

If you transfer a final salary pension, it won’t give you final salary benefits in the LGPS. Instead, an equal value of CARE benefits will be added to your LGPS pension account.

You usually have 12 months from joining the LGPS to decide if you want to transfer your old pension.

You can also combine earlier LGPS membership from a previous councillor or elected role with your new elected membership. Some exceptions may apply.
